VD takes the cake when it comes to documentary-style school promos. When we at Cultivate say “VD,” we mean the Video Department, and by “Video Department,” we mean Bret. He has this uncanny ability to disguise a promotional video by presenting it as some kind of celebratory tribute to the school. People laugh, people cry, people love it.
Take, for example, the favorite “Xth Anniversary Celebration” video. Schools celebrating milestone anniversaries—50, 100, or 125 years—seem to gravitate towards VD. I won’t be surprised when a 6th, 14th, or 37th anniversary merits a video commissioned to VD.
The latest (and in my opinion, the greatest) of these documentary-style videos were created for Roseland Christian School in honor of its 125th anniversary. (That’s crazy old for a grade school.) In addition to the signature 30-60 minute documentary video, VD produced a series of short videos for Roseland’s 125th anniversary microsite.
These high-quality, high-style, high-definition videos are highly entertaining. My favorite is “What Was RCS Like 125 Years Ago?” Somehow all the cutest kids in the world ended up at Roseland, and Bret asked them to imagine what their school was like 125 years ago. Their responses are both cute and hilarious.
Spoiler Alert: Jacob Waddy, a first-grader at Roseland, is pretty sure the principal was there when the school opened 125 years ago. “Mrs. Waddy’s been at school for a long time,” Jacob says seriously, his eyes wide. Even funnier? The principal is Jacob’s step-mom.
