So Cultivate has been together for six years now. Rather than celebrate by buying ourselves a dishwasher, we thought we would do something a little bit more romantic. So we’re gonna have a potluck at Mark’s house. Proving beyond a shadow of a doubt that we still know how to let loose. Since you can’t all be there to eat casserole and reminisce with us, we thought we’d put together a little list of the highlights from 2010.

On our long airport-filled journey to Lilongwe, Malawi, we had an overnight layover in Johannesburg, South Africa. Johannesburg was immediately striking for how much it reminded us of home. On the shuttle back to the airport in the morning, our driver asked us where we were traveling. Upon hearing our answer he laughed and exclaimed, “Ahhhh, you’re going to the REAL Africa.”

In Kaseleka, Malawi, we documented The Lingson Family Story.

La Paz, Bolivia will leave you absolutely breathless. I climbed one flight of stairs and then I took a break. Ranging in elevation between 9,840 feet and 13,450 feet, the La Paz metropolitan area descends from the Altiplano (Spanish for high plain) of the Andes Mountains much like your cereal bowl. 2.3 million people live in this bowl, and it is a beautiful basin. As far as the eye can see, houses cling to sides of mountains, and as your gaze reaches the valley, high-rise buildings begin to denote the hub of life in the city.

La Paz is a spectacular sight to see, and at its elevation, it takes a spectacular effort to travel by foot around the city. This is one fact among many that make Virginia Quispe's Story so amazing.
